What is PBIS?

PBIS is a framework or approach comprised of intervention practices and organizational systems for establishing positive social culture, learning and teacher environments, and individual behavior supports needed to achieve academic and social success for all students. Schools that implement PBIS focus on taking a team-based, systematic approach, and teaching appropriate behaviors to all students in the school.
Schools are discovering that PBIS:
- Helps to create a positive school climate.
- Addresses the behavioral needs of all students with proven, easy to implement strategies.
- Allows the school to create the “right fit” for them, so that practices are appropriate to the context and sustainable over time.
- Results in increased time for instruction and fewer disciplinary incidents.
- Is viable and does not have to overwhelm staff given the limited time and resources that schools are experiencing.

PBIS es un marco o enfoque compuesto de prácticas de intervención y sistemas organizacionales para establecer una cultura social positiva, entornos de aprendizaje y docentes, y apoyos de comportamiento individual necesarios para lograr el éxito académico y social de todos los estudiantes. Las escuelas que implementan PBIS se enfocan en adoptar un enfoque sistemático basado en equipo y en enseñar comportamientos apropiados a todos los estudiantes de la escuela.
Las escuelas están descubriendo que PBIS:
Ayuda a crear un clima escolar positivo.
Aborda las necesidades de comportamiento de todos los estudiantes con estrategias comprobadas y fáciles de implementar.
Permite a la escuela crear el “ajuste adecuado” para ellos, de modo que las prácticas sean apropiadas al contexto y sostenibles en el tiempo.
Da como resultado un mayor tiempo de instrucción y menos incidentes disciplinarios.
Es viable y no tiene que abrumar al personal dado el tiempo y los recursos limitados que están experimentando las escuelas.
